            Scientists use modern technology to develop tools that slaughterhouses and pig producers can use to predict meat quality. Is the pork meat tender, flavoursome and juicy? It would be a bit help if you had a tool that could predict the quality of the meat with the help of biomarkers.

            Denmark -  Abattoir expands
          </title>
          <description>
            DanePork, a privately owned slaughterhouse in Denmark, has applied for planning permission to increase production from 90 tonnes to 600 tonnes a day of slaughtered pigs. The planned expansion will not take place immediately says the company, but when it is complete it will mean over 40,000 pigs being slaughtered a week. This compares with Danish Crown&apos;s flagship Horsens slaughterhouse which kills 100,000 pigs a week.

            Denmark - Slaughtering report already out of date
          </title>
          <description>
            A 2005 report by the Danish Meat Institute entitled “Automation – The Meat Plant of the Future” mapped out what a future pork and beef slaughter plant would look like. While the pork plant of the future would incorporate automation in 13 distinct areas, the beef plant of the future would incorporate automation in just four areas, leaving the bulk of the work to be done by humans.

Of the 500 employees, half are holiday relief workers who were originally employed in connection with the summer holidays, so in reality the dismissals will affect 250 employees.

            Denmark - Danish Crown
          </title>
          <description>

Pork is a big part of Danish culture. The country’s folklore, thousands of years old, tells the story of Saerimmer, a living pig which provided enough meat to feed Valhalla; the pork was cut from its side every day, and magically regenerated as the gods ate. Although the gods of Valhalla would most likely fall foul of animal welfare standards if they were around today, the mythical hog does have a modern-day counterpart.
