Asda Stores Ltd., a U.K.-based broadline retailer and a subsidiary of Walmart Stores Inc., has taken control of two companies that supply it with meat, according to a report in the Yorkshire Post.
Asda is now part of the decision-making process at Forza Foods, a supplier of sliced RTE meats, and Kober Ltd., which supplies it with fresh meat, according to the report.
Both companies reportedly are run by Max Smith-Hilliard, an executive in the U.K. hog industry.
The companies say that by cutting out the middle man, Asda can afford to pay its suppliers more for their goods.
Under the new agreement, the Post, says, Asda has input into board membership as well as operating and financial decisions at both companies.
