According to preliminary data from The Federal Service for Control in the Sphere of Protection Consumers' Rights and Well-Being of Humans (Rospotrebnadzor) as of 23 October, 21 people were infected and one woman has died, they consumed the contaminated pork.
Veterinary experts say that there is no reason for the introduction of a full quarantine, but consumers should refrain from buying pork until more details are known.
"People have been admitted to hospital and five children are among them.
All patients bought meat and meat products on a market in Norilsk city.
The meat came from a private pig farm. A ban has already been implemented on the sale of this pork.
Rospotrebnadzor will conduct epidemiological investigation and determine all necessary measures to localize the spread of the disease,” according to report of Rospotrebnadzor.
However, it is unclear whether experts correctly identified the farm where the contaminated pork was produced, as during the preliminary testing of the samples of pork the causative agent was of trichinosis was not found. Rospotrebnadzor continues the inspections.
Residents of Norilsk ate contaminated pork between late August and early September.
The incubation period of the trichinosis is about one month.
