At Armidale, numbers slipped and quality was mixed. Restockers were active on lightweight yearling steers at much dearer rates. The yearling steers to feed sold to a cheaper trend. Heavy steers sold to a cheaper trend with quality also down. The better condition cows slipped 2¢ to 3¢/kg and the plain cows a bit more.
At Dubbo, numbers increased and quality remained mixed. Yearling steers to feeders improved 3¢; as the heavyweights to feeders and the trade eased 1c to 2¢/kg. Grown steers to feeders remained firm to 5¢/kg cheaper while the heavyweights to slaughter remained firm. Cows improved 2¢ as the D3 and D4 cows ranged from 113¢ to 128¢/kg.
At Bairnsdale, supply dropped and quality lifted. Good quality vealers made 167¢ with most sales of vealers and yearlings between 110¢ and 148¢/kg. Grown steers sold from 144¢ to 146¢/kg. The better quality beef cows made from 115¢ to 128¢, while some reasonable condition beef and dairy cows made between 106¢ and 118¢/kg.
At the close of Thursday markets the Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) slipped 7.25¢ on last week to settle at 294.25¢/kg cwt. The trade steer indicator lost 5¢ – to 159¢ while feeder steers dropped 4¢ to close at 158¢/kg. Japan ox fell 3¢ to end at 155¢ and US cow finished 1¢ cheaper at 116¢/kg.
At Wagga, consignment decreased and quality was plainer than the previous sale. Medium and heavyweight trade lambs were $4 to $6/head dearer as 3 scores averaged from 394c to 404c/kg cwt. Lightweight 2 score new season lambs to restockers made from $63 to $77/head. Ewe lambs ranged from $97 to $130/head. Export lambs improved $6 to $12 to top at $122/head. Medium and heavyweight mutton sold for an average price of 266c to 326c/kg cwt.
At the conclusion of Thursday markets the eastern states sheep and lamb indicators generally realised a cheaper trend. Restocker lamb dropped 5c – to 414c while Merino lamb lost 22c to close at 330c/kg cwt. Light lamb fell 8c – to 366c while trade lamb settled at 367c to be 10c/kg cwt cheaper. Heavy lamb eased 1c in value to 364c and mutton finished 4c stronger at 295c/kg cwt.
