Australia - Blonde Aquitine breeders field day

BLONDE d'Aquitaine breeders gathered at the weekend at Renard stud, Cobram, for a breed field day.
A total 45 breeders travelled from as far as Bairnsdale and Swan HIll to learn from cattleman and judge Graham Finlay, Gunnedah and and cattleman and trainer Mark woodstock, Top Watch Cattle Fitters, Benalla.

Mr Finlay, who runs a Limousin-Brahman herd of about 1500 head at Gunnedah and Walgettt, spoke about the importance of and relationship between correct structure, function, performance and temperament in working beef cows and bulls.

Mr Woodstock explaiend the finer points of show animal selection and demonstrated his skills at halter training, leading and show preparation.

The day closed with an annual general meeting for the southern region of the breed society.

Chairman of the southern region for the past 20 years Ian Fox, Renard, stood down from his position to take on a role as president of the breed society for Australia and New Zealand.

Mr Fox described the day as a "cattle experience of enormous value".

He said it gave breeders "added confidence and ability to select and develop their stud herds to offer quality animals to theindustry that strongly represent the Blonde advantages of temperament, ease of calving and high carcase yield.
