Despite the much increased entry and change in format to the Beltex Sheep Society's main show and sale at Carlisle, consignors and buyers went home in a confident mood, following last week's mamouth two-day event which saw more than 650 pedigree rams sell to average in excess of £920 per head.
The breed also celebrated a new ram lamb record, with the best from Aberdeenshire firefighter, Stuart Wood's Woodies flock from Skene, making 12,500gns selling to William and Liz McAllister, buying for their Artnagullion flock from Parkgate Road, Kells, Ballymena, Co Antrim, Northern Ireland.
Their purchase, Woodies Snoop Dog, which stood reserve male champion at the pre-sale show is by the former record priced lamb, Kingledores Rascal.
Top priced shearling ram at 10,000gns was Brian Ryder's Ryder Rooney, from Newton Cottage, Annanwater, Moffat. He is by Glantre Norris and sold to the Woodies, Kingledores and Hackney flocks.
Gimmers peaked at 7000gns for the female champion and supreme overall from Steve and Sara Gibbons' Whatmore flock from Brecon, Wales.
