At Dalby, numbers fell and quality was fair. Lightweight yearling steers to feed topped at 187¢ while heavyweights averaged 173¢/kg. Heavyweight grown steers averaged close to 162¢ while bullocks made to a top of 167¢/kg. Good conditioned heavy cows topped at 138¢ and averaged 128¢/kg.
At Casino, supply remained unchanged and quality was mixed. Vealers eased 3¢ to 7¢/kg while yearling steers and heifers also sold to a cheaper trend. Grown steers were 5¢/kg cheaper and heifers held firm. The cow market saw medium and heavyweights sell firm to 2¢ dearer, while lightweight cows were down 5¢ to 6¢/kg.
At Warrnambool, numbers eased and quality was good to very good. Yearling trade steers were 7¢ stronger as heavyweights ranged from 150¢ to 183¢/kg. Feeder cattle eased 3¢ to range between 148¢ to 165¢/kg. Grown steers eased 2¢ whilst bullocks lifted 2¢ and both ranged from 140¢ to 151¢/kg. The 3 and 4 score beef cows ranged from 120¢ to 133¢/kg.
At the close of Wednesday markets the Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) lost 7¢ on last week to settle at 294.75¢/kg cwt. The trade steer indicator slipped 5¢ – to 159¢ while feeder steers fell 6¢ to close at 157¢/kg. Japan ox eased 3¢ – to 155¢ and US cow finished 1¢ cheaper at 116¢/kg.
At Hamilton, lamb number eased and quality was good to very good. Lambs to the trade lifted $5 and $8 to range between $69 and $83/head. Lambs to restockers made from $57 to $77/head. The heavy 4 score lambs sold from $90 to $117/head to average 365¢/kg cwt. The extra heavyweight lambs however sold between $112 and $128/head and ranged from 360¢ to 390¢/kg cwt.
At the conclusion of Wednesday markets, the majority of eastern states sheep and lamb indicators realised cheaper levels. Restocker lamb fell 5¢ to end at 414¢ while Merino lamb dropped 22¢ – to 330¢/kg cwt. Light lamb slipped 8¢ to close at 366¢ while trade lamb settled 10¢ cheaper at 367¢/kg cwt. Heavy lamb eased 1¢ – to 364¢ and Mutton went against the trend to finish 4¢ dearer at 295¢/kg cwt.
