Kazakhstan - Veterinary authorities have reported an outbreak of foot and mouth disease in cattle

The presence of the FMD virus was first detected on 9 June and confirmed on 15 June. An immediate notification was sent to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) yesterday, 17 June.
The outbreak took place at a farm in Kokchetav. According to the report, 140 cattle were infected. However, swine were not infected, but 487 showed signs of susceptibility to the disease, while in the case of cattle, 639 were found susceptible. All animals were destroyed.
The source of the outbreak remains inconclusive.
Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests were carried out in cattle at the National Reference Veterinary Laboratory, and the results proved positive, thereby confirming the presence of the virus.
