Hastings police are investigating a case in which they say 33,000 pounds of ground beef were stolen from a semitrailer.
The refrigeration unit and several tires from the trailer were also taken, police say.
The rig was stolen Aug. 1 from the parking lot of the former Felpausch employee parking lot, according to a news release. The driver told police he parked the fully loaded trailer in the northwest corner of the lot a day earlier.
The trailer was found at a Pilot truck stop in Toledo on Aug. 15. Authorities in Ohio are helping Hastings officers with processing the trailer for evidence.
The trailer is owned by JBS Carriers out of Green Bay, Wisc. Total loss to the company is estimated
at more than $100,000.
