One hundred people – 90 hourly employees and 13 managers – will be laid off from North Baltimore, Ohio-based Equity Group.
The company, which makes beef patties and employs 322 people, has operated at the location for four decades. It expects to begin layoffs in early November.
The facility is a supplier to McDonald’s restaurants.
"As Keystone Foods’ strategies continually evolve to meet market demand and grow our business, we have taken steps to optimize operations at our Equity, North Baltimore facility to remain competitive within our industry.
As a part of this process, we will be eliminating some positions at this location," spokeswoman Maureen Garrity said in a statement to Meatingplace.
"We are confident in the future of our operations in North Baltimore.
These business decisions will ensure that we continue to be well positioned to support our beef processing business and remain a valuable partner in the community."
