After investigating numerous complains from workers at Anogla Pork LLC, in Algona, Iowa, OSHA has concluded that no violations have been discovered.
An investigation was opened after a group of workers filed complaints ranging from discrimination to poor treatment. The employees were organized by Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement (Iowa CCI).
According to a statement on Iowa CCI’s website, the group was organizing a campaign “highlighting the intersection of two of [Iowa CCI’s] primary issues – environmental and worker justice.”
“The group of Latino workers said that they were denied breaks that were granted to white employees, were berated by managers for being Latino and speaking Spanish, discouraged from going to the doctor when they reported injuries, forced to work in unsafe, dangerous facilities and environments with expired or otherwise inadequate safety equipment, and other potentially illegal working conditions,” Iowa ICCI said on its website.
OSHA, however, found now fault in the company's treatment of its workers after the investigation concluded. Anogla Pork was not fined, but instructed to fix the problem with its employees.
