A new outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) has been recently revealed on pig farm of agricultural holding "Kanevsky bacon" in Bryukhovetskiy district of Krasnodar region, stated in the official message of Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor).
Two new outbreaks of African swine fever reported in Russia
At the time of the outbreak the pig farm held more than 6,100 swine. It is too early to say, but probably all this stock will be culled to prevent the further spread of the disease to the enterprises located nearby.
Rosselkhoznadzor representatives also reported that the company itself is situated 25 kilometers away from the site of another outbreak of ASF: the pig farm "Reuktsy." The total pig stock in Bruhovetsky area is currently estimated to be 15,800 hogs.
"At the outbreak of the disease state veterinary service being taken a number of activities to localise and prevent further spread of infection," said Rosselkhoznadzor in an official statement.
According to statistics released by the service, in the current year, 23 ASF outbreaks have been registered in the Krasnodar region, among both domestic pigs and wild.
Another outbreak was recently reported by the regional department of Rosselkhoznadzor in the Tver region. This occurred in the wild.
“The study, undertaken by the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Veterinary Virology and Microbiology, of the samples of pathological material selected from dead wild boar found in the near complex "Zavidovo" located in the Konakovo district of the Tver region, has identified the gene of African Swine Fever virus. At the outbreak of the disease it is currently being taken to a package of measures to contain and prevent further spread of infection.” noted statement.
