Europe's largest pigmeat producer, Germany, has reported a decline in slaughterings.
Pig supply was down 0.8 percent in the first six months of this year.
This is the first decline in pig production the German industry has seen in seven years and the numbers involved are huge.
The number of slaughtered pigs fell 237,000 to 28.8m. As a result pork production fell 1.1 percent to 2.7m tonnes.
The German pig price has risen in recent weeks, as a result of a tightening supplies.
