Australia - Store cattle

28 Aug 2012

Numbers lifted, but quality was lower at this month’s CTLX store cattle market, with a steady supply of weaners and an increase in the numbers of yearling steers offered.

The number of cows with calves, along with pregnancy tested in calf (PTIC) cows was up on the previous sales.

Light weight weaner steers ranged from $430 to $560/head.

The better bred medium weights sold from $480 to $675/head, to average 230¢ to 240¢/kg lwt.

Heifers eased around $40/head, with the better medium weights reaching $410 to $610/head, while the plainer lots averaged $355 to $460/head.

PTIC heifers ranged from $760 to $880/head, while cows reached as high as $1,130/head - averaging $850/head.
