Ireland - The case of the pig's head

29 Jul 2012

A man accused of sending a pig's head to the home of a garda appeared in court yesterday.

Brendan Mahoney (45), of 74 Cabra Park, Dublin 7, was charged at Kilrush District Court with posting a package on January 26 last that contained a "menacing article" -- a pig's head.

A garda investigation was launched after the severed head arrived at the home of the Co Clare officer.

Mr Mahoney spoke only to confirm that he was represented by solicitor Michael Hanahoe, of Parliament Street, Dublin.

Judge Patrick Durcan remanded Mr Mahoney on bail to appear before Ennis Circuit Court on October 16 and ordered him to stay out of Clare while on remand.
