UK - The Okehampton Show

02 Sep 2012

Bright sunshine and a stiff breeze welcomed crowds from across the Westcountry to the 2012.

Okehampton Show – a survivor among a calendar of one-day events that have either been cancelled or postponed because of the wet weather.

It was touch and go though, whether the show would take place, admitted the secretary Claire Woodward, facing her second year in the job.
An attendance figure of around 12,500 fully justified the decision to go ahead – though the teams of pushers and pullers were busy in the main car parks as the boggy ground stopped car after car heading homewards.
And there was a record-breaking display of quality animals presented for the judges, making it the largest entry of livestock at any one-day show in Devon.

Commercial exhibitors, too, were appreciative of the decision to proceed, reporting brisk business throughout the day.

Judging of the trade stands is a special feature at Okehampton and this year the cup for the Best Stand in the Show went to land agents and auctioneers Ward & Chowen, of Tavistock, whose David Landick designed the stand for the show.
