UK - Lamb for Germany

26 Aug 2012

Quality Standard Lamb has been showcased at an event in Germany as part of an ongoing promotional campaign by Eblex.

The lamb reception in Dusseldorf was hosted by Consul-General Malcolm Scott and attended by 65 guests, including food retailers, personalities from the food industry and the media.

They were given the opportunity to sample various grilled cuts of lamb, accompanied by English wine and beer.

Jean-Pierre Garnier, Eblex export manager, said: "We are now making steady progress in marketing lamb in Germany and are widening its appeal to a larger public."

Growers facing difficult black-grass problems can turn to a new source of information, the Bayer CropScience TaskForce website.

Launched this week, it is a knowledge hub containing a wealth of information to help farmers and agronomists understand black-grass, and how to tackle the major weed in wheat crops.

The website is fully searchable and can be found at www.bayercrop science.co.uk/bgtf

The Dexter Cattle Society is celebrating the first anniversary of the successful independent Dexter Cattle Society Classification Scheme, which has actually run for just over 12 months.

A total of 164 Dexter cattle have been professionally assessed through the voluntary scheme so far.

Pedigree Dexter bulls and in-milk females over two years of age are being classified by Holstein UK to the Dexter Breed standard under the scheme.

Following a challenging season for oilseed rape production, the Home Grown cereals Authority has issued a timely update of its popular oilseed rape guide to help growers plan for a productive harvest in 2013.

Originally published in 2005, the guide has been revised to include information on the main lessons learnt from HGCA's extensive OSR research programme over the last seven years.

The guide represents a one-stop-shop for OSR agronomy and will act as an essential reference source for all growers of this increasingly popular crop.

The publication covers all the main areas associated with the growth of this crop, from understanding the market and its requirements to harvest and storage, and signposts to a wide range of further reference sources.
