Argentinean beef exports continue to track at historically low levels, with exports for August down 13% year-on-year, to 11,888 tonnes swt – back 23% for the first eight months of 2012 (INAC).
The reduction in shipments for January to August has been underpinned by lower volumes to Russia, (back 51%, to 6,522 tonnes swt), Venezuela (back 50%, to 2,313 tonnes swt) and the US (back 96%, to 294 tonnes swt).
Argentina is the largest EU beef quota holder with 29,375 tonnes swt, which represents 44% of the total allocated to eligible nations.
Last year (2011-2012), Argentina only shipped 64% of its allocation, exporting a total of 18,800 tonnes swt.
