The 23-month-old Gobongo Floyd sire weighed in at 970kg, and after some spirited bidding, sold to Peter Aisthorpe and family, Monal Grazing, Monto.
Mr Aisthorpe said they had been looking for a bull that would fit into their operation.
“We run a cross-breeding program where calves are sold straight off their mothers. We were looking for a bull that would lift the quality of our cattle that we’re tyring to market,” Mr Aisthorpe said.
“We’ve seen this bull throughout the year, and we liked the length and depth he had.”
The second top priced bull of the sale was a Senepol offered by Ken and Cathy Marsh, Quirran-Lea Senepols, Lower Wonga.
The polled Quirran-Lea Fagan sire sold to Geoff and Alison Maynard, 5 Star Senepols, Mt Eugene, for $6750.
Fagan weighed 790kg, scanned 126 square cm in the EMA, and had a scrotal circumference of 40.5cm.
The Maynard’s also purchased a Senelais bull in Quirra-Lea Foaley for $5000, again offered by Ken and Cathy Marsh.
Les and Anne Marshall, Greenfields Charbrays, Jambin, sold the 1009kg Greenfields Redman to Wes Wolff for $6000.
The bull had impressive figures on paper with an EMA of 138sq cm and a scrotal circumference of 45cm.
The Greenfields stud also sold another two Charbray bulls for $5000 and $4500 to K Tebbit, Mundubbera, and Muspratt and Sons respectively.
Clint and Robyn Whitaker, Whitaker Brahmans and Charbrays, Mundubbera, topped their draft of four Charbrays at $4000 twice.
Birch Droughtmasters, Eidsvold, topped the Droughtmaster section at $5000 for Birch Legend.
By the Glenlands Granville sire, the 771kg Birch Legend scanned 12/7mm at the P8 and rib fat sites, and sold to Whinestone Pastoral Co.
Birch Droughtmasters offered seven bulls for a $3607 average.
Richard and Adele Acton, Ambleside Droughtmasters, Thangool, sold a polled herd bull for $4500 to Kevin and Dorris Goody.
Kuraby Brangus, Goomeri, sold a polled bull for $4250 to Grant Dingle, while D&D Quinne, Voewood Brangus, Calliope, also sold a polled bull for $4000 to Hooper and Son.
D Blackley, Gundapark Angus, Wandoan, helped boost the overall sale average after selling his top three bulls for $4750, $4500, and $4000.
The Santa’s finished the sale strongly when Scott Dunlop, Dunlop Cattle Co, Proston sold the polled Dunlop G328 sire for $4750 to Kyntyre Partnership, and Shaun and Jo McGuigan, Cree Pastoral, Thangool, sold Cree Quota G036 (P) for $4500 to Charnwood Grazing.
