The looming wet season in the Northern Territory may prevent the Australian Agricultural Company from building its proposed abattoir until May next year.
While the principal builder for the project, 50 kilometres south of Darwin, will be appointed next week, a final investment decision from AAco's board could still be months away.
Northern beef general manager Stu Cruden says ideally the building works need to begin very soon, but that depends on external investors, some of whom are showing considerable interest.
"Our board is currently reviewing those opportunities and will be making a decision in the next six weeks or so about those opportunities, whether they continue to go alone in this project or look to bring other investors in."
