Argentinean beef exports during July fell 23% year-on-year, to 9,353 tonnes swt, with exports for the first seven months of 2012 totalling 68,822 tonnes swt – the lowest seven month total for the past decade and 25% below the corresponding period in 2011 (IPCVA).
Along with historically low beef production, the lower monthly exports were driven by a fall in exports to Russia, (5,819 tonnes swt, back 52%), Venezuela (1,964 tonnes swt, down 51%) and the US (277 tonnes, down 95%).
Reflecting a contraction in cattle prices across a numbers of key beef producing nations during August, along with an increase in cattle turnoff, average Argentinean steer prices for the past month decreased 9.3% year-on-year, to 195US¢/kg lwt.
