USA - Northern Beef Packers
20 Jul 2012
The multi-year saga of the Northern Beef Packers plant in Aberdeen, S.D. isn’t over yet: The company’s expected opening did not come off as planned on Saturday, according to a report in the Aberdeen American News.
The opening will happen in the “near future,” a spokeswoman for the plant told the newspaper, but no date has been set.
The company’s one plant, in Aberdeen, was initially to open in May 2008.
The opening date has been repeatedly pushed back as the company has been beset by liens, lawsuits, the economic downturn and the need to pay back taxes.
Northern Beef Packers still says it will eventually employ 560 people and slaughter 1,500 cattle a day five days a week.
