UK - Outcross Limousin bull with the looks and the figures

04 Aug 2012

One of the top Limousin bulls of the breed, which unusually combines both the ‘wow factor’ on appearance with breed-leading performance figures, has been added to the Cogent Signature Beef range. A further bonus is an outcross pedigree which is unrelated to the big name sires of the moment, and will perfectly blend with their bloodlines.
Anside Flint was purchased as a 19 month old bull at the Limousin breed sale in Carlisle earlier this year, where he was said to be the ‘stand out’ bull on a record-breaking day.

Purchased for 30,000 gns by David Kelly from Netherhall Limousins, he will be used heavily in Mr Kelly’s renowned Cumbrian herd and offered for AI through Cogent.
“The moment we saw Flint we knew he was the bull for us,” said Mr Kelly at the sale. “He stood out a mile in the show ring, displaying style and exceptional correctness with good mobility.”

Beef specialist Boomer Birch, who was keen to add him to the Cogent stud, concurred and said: “Flint has exceptional breed character and overall conformation, and carries meat in all the right places. He has tremendous width and power through the loin and a squareness over his plates.”

Remarking on his breeding, he adds: “Flint is a total outcross pedigree to anything that has been in AI for many years, so he can be used with confidence across the dominant bloodlines in the breed, such as Wilodge Vantastic and Sympa.”

The Estimated Breeding Values that come with the package are just as impressive as the bull himself. With 200 and 400 day growth rates as well as muscle depth in the top five per cent of the breed, he will bring significant improvements to any herd.

“With the bonus of good maternal traits including a high maternal value and docility in the breed’s top five per cent he will also sire outstanding suckler cows,” concludes Mr Birch.
