Producers and processors must tackle retailers together.
Adopting a crisis mentality is important to protect the future of our industry, says marketing group Meadow Quality.
"We don't think it is the processors who are with-holding a fair-share of the retail value, but it is they of course, who hold the real bargaining power with the end buyers.
"We believe we need to work with them — and they with us and our contemporaries — to meet with the retail buying sector and the pigmeat manufacturing sector too, to highlight the impending crisis.
"If no plan of action is put in place to move pig prices in line with production cost increases, we can foresee a good many golden sows no longer producing golden piglets." Meadow Quality commentary >>>
