Russia's largest meat producers are planning to increase the production of marbled beef in the country in the coming years.
Recently Miratorg, one Russia’s biggest meat producers, announced its plans to purchase thrity-thousand head of cows and a thousand bulls in order to create a marble beef production in Russia's Bryansk region.
Earlier, another Russian meat producer Suragro said that it plans to launch a complex for the production of marbled beef and will buy about 3000 cows of Aberdeen-Angus breed from Australia.
According to the president of the Russian Meat Union, Musheg Mamikonyan currently there are no companies in Russia that have an opportunity to produce marbled meat on an industrial scale.
Most marbled meat is usually supplied from Australia and the US . According to Mamikonyan, the share of marbled meat in the total meat imports to Russia does not exceed 1%, with prices amounted to €23-25 per 1 kg, while in Japan, prices are up to €450 per 1 kg.
