China - Poultry giant expanding

Image provided by Prime Equipment Group A global meat processing company, which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary in China, is on its way to becoming one of the country’s biggest poultry processors.

 

OSI China, which supplies major fast food chains, including Starbucks, Saizeriya, Papa John’s, Yum, Burger King and Subway, last week opened a "mega-plant" for further processing in China’s Henan province, and signed a deal with DOYOO Group to create OSI’s third fully vertically integrated poultry operation in the country.

 

“We now have a total of eight factories in China, and we are on the path to be one of the country’s largest poultry producers,” said Sheldon Lavin, chairman and CEO of OSI. “To continue to capture the incredible opportunities in front of us, we are expanding our vertically integrated model here for poultry, in both primary and further processing.”

 

OSI China opened its first factory in Beijing in 1992, supplying the country’s MacDonald’s. The company now has eight factories in the country, and is a major supplier to a number of other fast-food chains including Starbucks, Saizeriya, Papa John’s, Yum, Burger King and Subway.

 

The company supplied 113 tons of beef, chicken, pork, eggs and onions to MacDonald’s during the Beijing Olympic Games.
