Australian live exports increased across all categories during August, with cattle shipments increasing 49% year-on-year, while sheep exports jumped 73% year-on-year.
Live cattle exports reached 51,083 head in August, taking exports for the first eight months of 2012 to 440,774 head, with a corresponding export value of $402 million FOB.
Shipments to Indonesia totalled 13,850 head, while exports to the Philippines, Libya and China reached 8,706 head, 6,900 head and 6,794 head, respectively.
Live sheep exports jumped to 216,169 head in August, bringing total exports since January to 1.65 million head - with an associated export value of $217 million FOB.
Saudi Arabia was the largest export destination for the month, at 69,000 head, while significant shipments were also registered to Qatar (46,500 head), Kuwait (43,362 head) and Bahrain (42,000 head).
Live goat exports during August surged to 9,360 head – the largest export volume since July 2011. Malaysia received the majority of shipments, registering 9,339 head for the month.
