USA - Another new farm documentary

22 Jul 2012

A new documentary that covers the grassroots movement toward sustainable meat production will be screened locally following food events at two local restaurants.

"American Meat" will be shown at the Mounds View Theater in St. Paul following a tasting of local charcuterie, artisanal cheeses and breads at Heartland Restaurant downtown St. Paul.

The movie also was screened at Edina Cinema after a local charcuterie and wine tasting at Lucia's in Uptown, Minneapolis, this week.

Panel discussions following the film screening will include the filmmaker, the chefs and local cattle, pig and dairy farmers who focus on sustainable farming practices.

The tasting at Heartland, 289 E. 5th St., St. Paul, is from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Tuesday, July 17, with the movie screening to follow at 7 p.m. at Mounds View Theater, 1029 Hudson Road, St. Paul.

The film and panel discussion is $10, with tickets available online at AmericanMeatFilm.com  or $10 the day of the screening. The food event is $35. Call Heartland at 651-699-3536 for reservations.

Many local restaurants have moved to using meat sourced from sustainable farmers in recent years.

The film celebrates those farmers and discusses solutions to challenges in the meat industry.
