Authorities in Gorkha have imposed a ban on the import of poultry birds from outside the district.
The ban has been imposed after first case of bird flu surfaced in Pokhara, said chief at District Livestock Office, Chhetra Bahadur KC.
Lamjung and Tanahun districts have also banned poultry and chicken import, he said.
Bird flu was detected in Pokhara last week. Samples of the dead ducks and chickens collected from the poultry farm of Gyan Bahadur Khadka in Ghoripatan confirmed bird flu virus.
KC said there was no need to panic as the district is free from the deadly disease, adding we have taken preventive measures.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that despite the ban on the import of poultry products, sales of chickens brought in from Pokhara has been continuing at Palungtar, Gaikhur and Chyangli of Gorkha, southern parts of Lamjung and Bhanu and Purkot VDCs of Tanahun.
