An excellent clearance rate was seen at this week’s August sheep dog sale held at Harrison & Hetherington’s Lazonby Mart. The sale started well with a number of broken collies reaching excellent prices. The top price of the day 3,200 guineas was for Dot a broken collie.
Both working and unbroken sheep dogs went under the hammer and those who attended appeared very impressed with the calibre of dogs available. Unbroken collie dogs or pups achieved up to 380gns.
Shaun Richards of Watson Laithes Farm, Hapton reached the top price of the day with his almost three year old collie Dot. The dog was knocked down at 3,200gns to Jim Fraser, Auchnarrow Farm, Morayshire. The same purchaser also secured the second top priced dog which was an 11 month old dog “Upland Moss” consigned by Pennant Williams of Pen-Y-Bryn, Mold. This reached another excellent price of 2,400gns.
Harrison & Hetherington’s Auctioneer on the day James Little commented on the sale;
“It was a new sale in the calendar on the back of the success of the May dog sales. There was a good clearance rate and overall it was a great success. The catalogue listed 18 dogs however by the time the sale rolled round our entries had climbed to 39 and the turnout of potential buyers was excellent.”

This was Harrison & Hetherington’s last sale of Sheep Dogs and Pups for 2012 however the auctioneers are expecting them to become a popular fixture on the auction calendar for 2013.
