Two pig farm sites have been destroyed by fire in the Dutch province of Gelderland in the last two days, killing 1,300 pigs in total.
Last night, a pig house with 32 sows and about 700 piglets near the village Achter-Drempt went up in flames.
The fire was discovered by the farm owner at about 10.30 pm.
The animals had already died when the fire brigade appeared at the scene.
They did manage to prevent the fire spreading to two other pig houses. By midnight, the fire was under control.
In the course of today, a research into the cause of the fire is expected to start.
Wednesday morning, another pig farm was destroyed in a blaze that killed 300 weaners near the town of Aalten, about 35 km from Achter-Drempt.
In this fire, in total two buildings were affected, housing 600 weaners in total. The rescued animals were housed elsewhere.
