A LARGE panel of competitive buyers rushed to the ringside at CQLX Gracemere for day one of the Droughtmaster National sale on Tuesday.
The sale topped at $26,000 twice, which helped to post a strong day one average of $6665 after 270 bulls were sold.
The first bull to reach the $26,000 mark was Locarno Gus (S), offered by Paul Russel, Locarno Droughtmasters, Dingo.
The 20-month-old sire was purchased by Gus McCormack, Clonlara Droughtmasters, Glenmorgan.
Locarno Gus boasted a weight of 802kg, an EMA of 138 square cm and scanned 12 and 10mm at the P8 and rib fat sires respectively.
Sharing the day one top price honours was the Donaldson family from Medway Droughtmasters, Bogantungun.
Their polled Medway Squire sire was purchased in partnership by Hewitt Cattle Co, Forks Lagoon, Emerald, and Rewan Cattle Co, Arcadia Valley.
At 23 months, Medway Squire measured 126sq cm in the EMA and had a scrotal circumference of 41cm.
