Hampshire Down ewes sold to a top of 550gns in Carlisle on Saturday 29th September at the breed society’s official fixture.
Sale topper at 550gns was a shearling ewe by Kelsey Gigolo and out of a Wattisfield What Next sired ewe. Bred and exhibited by Graham and Judith Galbraith, Kendal she sold to Alan McCornick, Newton Stewart. The same buyer paid 420gns for a ewe lamb from the same breeders but this time by a homebred ram and out of a Parkstock bred ewe.
Another entry from the Galbraiths, a shearling ewe by Gigolo and out of a dam by Kelsey Duval was secured for 500gns by JM Smith, New Cumnock, whilst a ewe lamb from the same breeders sold for 480gns to RR and G Bainbridge, Southwaite, Carlisle.
The day’s second 500gns bid went to the day’s female champion, a shearling, sired by Maes Glas Tyson’s Punch and out of a dam by Pode Hole Oscar from the Jones family, Wolfcastle. The buyer was Jonathan Phillips, Blaydonburn who also went to 420gns for a Parkstock sired ewe lamb from Tim Hunter, Louth.
Another shearling ewe by Maes Glas Tyson’s Punch from the Jones family made 450gns to Mr McCornick. The Jones also led the ram section at 400gns with a shearling by Ardbrack Chancer and out of a dam by Maes Glas Triple H. He went home with JJ and I Murdoch, Tarbolton.
Averages: one ewe £399, seven shearling ewes £426, five ewe lambs £424.20, three shearling rams £297.50
