Australia - Meat and Livestock Australia boss Scott Hansen

20 Oct 2012

MEAT and Livestock Australia boss Scott Hansen is delivering a pep talk to lot feeders on the Gold Coast this morning, outlining the major growth markets for Australian beef over the next five years.

Battered by high grain prices and the high Australian dollar, lot feeders at the industry’s BeefEx conference will hear the US is poised to deliver the biggest impact on beef demand due to its rising population and high per capita consumption.
Also on the rise are the Middle East and North African (MENA) states, as well as China and South East Asia. Declining populations throughout Japan, Russia and Eastern Europe will contribute to a negative impact on beef demand.
Exports to South Korea are also due to fall 6000 tonnes or 4 per cent by 2016.
