Australia - More lambs for Japan

12 Sep 2012

Lower livestock prices and an increase in production assisted Australia’s lamb exports to Japan during August, surging 41% year-on-year, to 743 tonnes swt (data by Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry).

Chilled shipments during the month increased 35% year-on-year, to 505 tonnes swt, while frozen volumes kicked 55% to 238 tonnes swt.

Augusts result continues the higher Australian lamb exports to Japan so far in 2012, up 11% year-on-year, at 5,614 tonnes swt – the highest level since 2009.
