UK - EBLEX highlights fifth quarter export opportunities for smaller processors
26 Oct 2012
Many small and medium sized processors are missing a golden opportunity to capitalise on exporting fifth quarter products which could generate up to £100 per head, according to EBLEX.
The organisation for English beef and lamb producers and processors is coordinating a series of free process reviews, on request, for abattoirs to help them identify how to maximise potential market opportunities through full carcase utilisation, particularly fifth quarter products.
As part of the review, EBLEX will assess current procedures and discuss what options are available for processors to enhance their export offering, including information on markets, specification and packaging requirements.
Dr Phil Hadley, EBLEX southern senior regional manager, said: “We are convinced that there are far wider opportunities for small to medium-sized processors than are currently being exploited. The potential difference in return could be as much as £100 per head.
“Most of the bigger processors are already taking advantage of fifth quarter exports which is encouraging, but these opportunities also exist for smaller processors. Our aim is to work with them to help identify how they can also benefit commercially from sales of fifth quarter products.”
