Japan - The beef trade slow

15 Sep 2012

It was a slow week for imported beef in the Japanese wholesale market, with many retailers reportedly still allocating a larger proportion of shelf space to Japanese Wagyu/domestic beef, as a result of subdued Obon holiday sales.

The trade waits for a pick-up in interest for Australian beef when end-users commence their negotiations with suppliers for autumn/winter promotions early to mid-next month.

Lack of strong interest from the market continued to challenge  Australian beef exports this week, with indicative prices showing a slight easing in  US$ terms from last week, reflecting sluggish demand and a small fall in the A$.
