As part of the 75th birthday celebrations of Spam, the CEO of Hormel, Jeffrey Ettinger, is ringing the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange on July 10.
That’s right. Spam is everywhere. You may love it or hate it, but there’s no escaping the briny, almost deviled-ham like taste of Spam. Created in 1937, some 100 million pounds of it fed Allied soldiers abroad during World War II.
A generation of semi-conscious college students can sing the Spam song from Monty Python and its cultural touchstones are legendary.
In 2007, the company marked making the seven billionth can of it.
Earlier this year, the company introduced a character, Sir Can A-Lot, to mark the anniversary and it’s taking a big role on the Spam website and various television and online ads.
So crack open a can and celebrate a spammy kind of birthday.
