AGRICULTURE Minister Michelle O’Neill has informed Farming Life that plans are underway to pay interest to those still awaiting their 2011 SFP.
She said: “Whilst I am pleased that my department has been meeting its targets on paying Single Farm Payment, I am conscious that later payment of Single Farm Payment can add to difficult financial situations that some claimants find themselves in.
“I have maintained close attention on progress of finalising these inspection cases and believe the majority will be finalised by the end of July.
At this time over 96% of 2011 claims have been finalised, with around 1,300 claims still outstanding.
This is for a number of reasons, including queries on claims, probate and around 560 still need to have inspection findings applied.
“As far as these remaining cases are concerned, I understand that interest (subject to certain conditions) has been paid in the past where SFP was paid on or after 1st July.
I have therefore asked my officials to pay interest to those farmers that have faced delays which were caused by the Department,” she added.
