Ireland - The food and drink industry

14 Jul 2012

More than 120 leaders of Ireland's food and drink industry will gather at the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School for the Pathways for Growth Food and Drink Leadership Summit, where An Bord Bia is expected to announce today (Thursday) their marketing strategy for Irish food.

It is expected that a new logo will be revealed for business customers of Irish ingredients.

Meanwhile, Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney is expected to ask Bord Bia to begin work with key stakeholders on the development of a national sustainability programme for the dairy sector.

Delegates will be addressed by An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, Minister Simon Coveney as well as Mary Shelman and Professor David Bell from Harvard Business School.

The summit brings Ireland's leading food and drink industry representatives together for the third time since 2010, when the inaugural event was hosted in Farmleigh, which resulted in the development of Bord Bia's Pathways for Growth plan.

Delegates will receive an update on this five year development programme, which has been a catalyst for change in the industry and will have the opportunity to consider issues such as Ireland's reputation and the importance of our green credentials.
