In the Japanese foodservice sector, it became illegal from this week to serve raw beef liver at restaurants in Japan.
The Osaka City Meat Wholesale Market has subsequently announced that it will reduce prices for beef offal from mid-July, in an attempt to support the struggling yakiniku (Japanese/Korean style barbecue) businesses.
Raw beef liver has traditionally been sourced from Japanese domestic cattle and was one of the dishes served raw at yakiniku restaurants.
In the Australian beef export market this week; Japanese bids for chilled grassfed fullset remained cautious, despite the slight softening of prices due to relatively slow interest and competition from other markets.
Navel end brisket continued to be sought after, but supplies are reportedly limited.
