The USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has determined that Japan is free of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), the agency announced Thursday.
The move clears the way for resumed imports of whole cuts of boneless beef from Japan.
The determination goes into effect Aug. 17.
Japan’s status for BSE, classical swine fever and swine vesicular disease means that imports of other ruminant meat and meat byproducts, fresh pork, live ruminants and live swine remain prohibited.
