Australia - Cattle over the hook
12 Aug 2012
With winter continuing to be damp and cold across most regions of the south east, the quality of cattle offered has reportedly slipped.
Restricted supplies in both NSW and Victoria has seen some processors reduce operating days or taking maintenance breaks.
While grass fed lines have been showing the full impact of the cold weather, many of the supplementary fed cattle offered continue to hold condition.
Queensland prices have remained steady in recent weeks, with good numbers still available.
Weak export demand and a strong A$ continues to hinder the ability for processors to lift their prices, while the quality in the north of the state has eased.
