A TOP-quality yarding of 4526 head was on-hand at the Blackall weaner and store sale held on July 26.
Quality lines were drawn from Central and North West Queensland. A strong panel of buyers were present, with strong competition from the south.
The best of the heavy feeder steers topped at 193c/kg, while weaner steers topped at 236c. It was a very strong heifer sale, with an outstanding quality line of Alice Downs heifers topping the sale at 206c.
Steers to 220kg made 233c to average 216c, steers 220-280kg topped at 236c to average 210c, steers 280-350kg reached 233c to average 201c, steers 350-400kg peaked at 209c to average 188c, and those from 400-500kg made 193c to average 185c.
Heifers to 220kg topped at 206c to average 197c, heifers 220-280kg reached 206c to also average 197c, 280-350kg heifers topped at 204c to average 189c, and those from 350-450kg peaked at 198c to average 182c.
Home Creek Pastoral Trust, Home Creek, Barcaldine, sold Santa steers, topping at 227c to average 287kg and return $653/head.
Home Creek Pastoral Company of Oma, Isisford, sold Santa-cross steers to a top of 198c to average 329kg and return $652. The Santa and Hereford-cross steers topped at 223c and returned $630.
Peel Northampton Downs Pty Ltd, Northampton Downs, Blackall, sold Santa steers to a top of 216c to average 315kg and return $681. The lighter Santa steers topped at 225c.
Killarney Park Grazing, Killarney Park, Tambo, sold a run of Santa steers that topped at 217c to average 299kg and return $650.
Boxel Holdings Pty Ltd, Valley Downs, Barcaldine, sold Droughtmaster steers that topped at 221c to average 245kg and return $543. They also sold Droughtmaster-cross heifers, which topped at 197c to average 205kg and return $405.
EL Taylor, Boree Downs, Longreach, sold Angus steers to a top of 204c to average 267kg and return $545, while CM and JA McClelland, Pembroke, Aramac, sold Santa steers that topped at 213c to average 260kg and return $555.
Dallas Clein, Coleraine, Jericho, sold Charbray heifers that topped at 194c to average 186kg and return $362, while HC and JA Maxwell, Hazelwood, Longreach, sold heavy boned Brahman steers to average 178c and return $703.
AS and HA Howard, Locharnoch, Jericho, sold VGQ Droughtmaster steers, topping at 233c to average 275kg and return $644.
They also sold Droughtmaster heifers to 201c to average 232kg and return $468.
GJ and JM Bambling, Glenavon, Aramac, sold VGQ Red Brahman steers, which topped at 195c and averaged 371kg to return $724.
Lloyd Werai Grazing Co, Blackall, sold Hereford-cross steers for a top of 206c, with the lead pen making 193c to weigh 444kg and return $857.
RSW and JE Keogh, Amaroo, Blackall sold Charolais-cross steers for 210c to weigh 254kg and return $533p/h, while Alice Downs/Forest Park/ Elizabeth Allen, Alice Downs, Blackall, sold a quality run of 568 Santa heifers for a top of 206c to average 194c weigh 303kg and return $587p/h.
JA and AM Sprague, Neverfail, Blackall, sold Droughtmaster-cross steers for 233c weighing 187kg to return $435p/h, the draft averaged 226c weighing 187kg to return $424p/h.
