Alasdair Cox, director of corporate affairs at VION UK, said:
“Since the initial announcement about the possible closure of the Hall’s site was made our focus has been on implementing the consultation process via a series of meetings with our employees and their union representatives.
“These weekly meetings have been useful in allowing the company to explain the rationale behind the announcement and to enable discussion of the potential impact on our staff and any possible alternatives to closure of the plant.
“Weekly updates are being issued to all employees, a process which will continue as the consultation progresses.
“We have also maintained regular contact with the Scottish Government and today’s meeting of the task force team has provided the opportunity for further discussion with senior politicians as well as representatives of Scottish Enterprise, Scottish Development International, Quality Meat Scotland and others relevant agencies.
“Given that we are still at an early stage of the consultation process it would be inappropriate to comment further on progress at this time.”
