Northern Ireland - Tesco Taste Festival is Back Bigger and Better

05 Sep 2012

Belfast's biggest free consumer food festival is back!  The fabulous Tesco Taste Northern Ireland festival is returning to Custom House Square in Belfast on the weekend of 14th- 16th of September. Now in its fourth year, the 2012 foodie extravaganza looks set to be even bigger and better than before - we can't wait!

Northern Ireland's favourite food & drink companies will gather for a superb weekend of tasting, cooking and sharing the love of local food.  The event is under cover in a huge marquee in Belfast City Centre and, even better, admission is free!

Taste Northern Ireland 2012 is brought together by Tesco NI to celebrate and showcase all that's great about our amazing local food & drink producers, suppliers and chefs.  There will be heaps of free tastings and samples guaranteed as well as exclusive previews of brand new products.

We're looking forward to seeing local favourites like Dale Farm, Kingsmill, Cookstown and Guinness, alongside the likes of Avondale, Coca-Cola, Mash Direct and Finnebrogue.  At this year's show there's also a new focus on the smaller artisan producers who'll get a chance to present their lovingly-crafted produce to the food-mad visitors alongside the bigger names we know and love.  One of these is Boozeberries, a tiny company whose passion and incredibly hard work has paid off with a Tesco listing over the last couple of years.  We're thrilled to see the team from Cloughbane Farm will be there too - also getting ready for their big Tesco debut with their oven-ready lasagne and pies.

Visitors will get the chance to be among the first to try some exciting new products from local heroes including Bushmills and Tayto.  Mullins Ice Cream will be donating all the profits from sales of their new 125ml tubs at the festival to their charity, Autism NI.  And as a final teaser, we've learned that Sunblest are planning to marry two of Northern Ireland's favourite things: pancakes and comedy!  You'll just have to come along to find out what that involves!

This is a unique chance to spend a bit of time meeting passionate local food producers and suppliers who love nothing more than to share the story of their produce and are delighted to let you try it - it's food heaven for anyone interested in the joy of food!

Family Fun Day Out

But it's not just about the sampling: Taste NI 2012 looks set to be a great family day out.   The celebrations will run all weekend with fun and games in the Ballygowan Activity Zone, kids' arts & crafts workshops, live music, hip hop and Indian dance sessions, roving circus entertainers, and even a petting farm for the little ones.  On Sunday, the gorgeous James Huish will bring a relaxed feeling to the proceedings with his Michael Bublé tribute - we love that man!

With plenty to occupy the whole tribe, the cooks of the household can take a little time out to enjoy some of the master-classes in the demo kitchen.  In the Taste of Ulster cookery theatre, there's a full programme of our favourite NI chefs sharing their cooking tips and recipes, using top local produce.   With the help of Skea Eggs we're also expecting plenty of cracking ideas to inspire our cooking with eggs and maybe the odd celebrity omelette challenge!

Taste NI 2012 is supported by Translink, which is encouraging visitors and foodies to make the most of a great day out by taking the bus or train from all over Northern Ireland direct to Belfast City Centre and of course there's plenty of parking close by in the city centre if you choose to come by car.

Share the Tesco love of local food and celebrate Taste Northern Ireland - a fabulous FREE food festival in Custom House Square in the heart of Belfast.
