UK - South West Limousin Cattle Breeders' Club

14 Oct 2012

The special autumn show and sale of Limousin cattle for the South West Limousin Cattle Breeders' Club, held at Bristol, attracted a full ringside of buyers – and saw a top price of 3,400gns.
Heading the prices was a Fieldson Alfy-bred bull, shown by Chris Richens, of Totnes. His homebred Broadoak Galahad, an 18-month-old son out of an Mynach Tzar-sired mother, won the Male and Supreme Championship at the pre-sale judging. Galahad was purchased by an undisclosed Cumbrian buyer.

Following at 2,650gns was an 18-month-old bull shown by H & J L Parker of Warminster. Stourhead General, a son of Utha and bred from a Stourhead October-sired mother, was sold to B A & C Godwin of Bath.

Leading the female classes was a herd brood cow with her bull calf at foot. Shown by D K Wheeler, of the Rosecroft Herd from Cullompton, Quaish Princess sold for 2,300gns. She is a ninth-calved cow sired by Djerk and out of a noted Broadmeadows Governess family line. Princess was sold in-calf to Fieldson Alfy and with her Ulm-bred calf at foot. She was knocked down to M & S Edwards for their Dolmoor Herd, based near Bristol.

Also from the Rosecroft Herd, selling for 2,000gns, was Rahoney Starlight, an eighth-calved cow with her bull calf. Starlight is a daughter of Tanat Mostyn and goes back to Shire Ferdinand, Bobet, Tanhhill Sogood and Princesses. Starlight was sold carrying a Wilodge Cerberus and a Fieldson Alfy bull calf by her side. This outfit joins the Shilvington Herd for T W G Bartlett & Son of Dorset.

The sale included a major reduction consignment from Colin Phillips, of Taunton. Topping at 2,100gns was Timberlands Copperbeech, a second-calved cow with her heifer calf. Copperbeech, a daughter of Tunnel by Ugolimo and out of Glenrock Officer-bred mother, sold in-calf to Goldies Empire. She was purchased by W O & V Dibdin of the Fairacres Herd, Hampshire.

Selling for 1,900gns from the Timberlands Herd was Broomfield Bluebell, a fourth-calved cow with her bull calf at foot. Bluebell is a daughter of Ronick Matador and out of Broomfield UIah. Also carrying a Goldies Empire calf and with her April-born Millgate Dennis-sired calf, they both sold to the Atley Herd for A S Ball, of Bodmin.
