Australia - Inghams Poultry sale

14 Oct 2012

There's growing speculation that poultry giant Inghams Enterprises will be sold to a foreign company.

Australia's largest poultry producer has been on the market since July and industry sources say due diligence with prospective buyers is underway.

Sources suggest Inghams is close to being sold.

Peter Bedwell, from industry magazine Poultry Digest, says there'll be controversy if Inghams is sold to a foreign company.

"It is a politically-charged issue," he said.

"Cubbie (Station) was high profile, but it's a cotton producer, it's not even a food producer.

"With a food producer with as high a profile as Inghams, there would be public scrutiny, I would think.
"This is a fairly complex company; it's obviously not going to be a short issue to resolve, but I think the process is obviously well underway."
