USA - Ammonia leak at poultry plant

Image provided by Prime Equipment Group A Pilgrim’s Pride plant in Mount Pleasant, Texas, evacuated employees Friday afternoon after an ammonia leak that sent some to the hospital for observation, but none were admitted and employees returned to work within just over an hour,The leak occurred while contract workers were performing a maintenance procedure on the roof of the prepared foods facility.
 
 
 
No explosion occurred.

A total of 781 employees were evacuated. Nine were transported to Titus Regional Medical Center by emergency medical services while a few more took themselves to the hospital.

Employees at the medical center were under observation for about an hour; none has been admitted to the hospital, according to Pilgrim’s Pride spokeswoman Margaret McDonald.

She said the leak occurred at 2:22 p.m. on Friday. It was halted quickly and the repair was completed by 2:50 p.m.
 
Employees returned to work at 3:35 p.m.
