Libya - Big problems with FMD

03 Jul 2012

The Libyan veterinary authorities have reported three outbreaks of foot and mouth disease in Banghazi and Tarabulus.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received Follow-up Report No. 4 on 18 June.

The affected populations comprise cattle and sheep/goats.

Out of 165 susceptible cattle, 41 cases were identified.

No deaths were reported, and no animals were destroyed.

Spread of the disease through airborne means has been sourced as the main cause of the outbreaks.
